Welcome back for Part 2 of our ADHD & Sleep series -- this week we dive into what the experts recommend for ideal "sleep hygiene" and Katie picks a fight with Harvard, as usual. At this point it's basically just a non-compliance bingo with her, but here we are. We also discuss different ways to trick ourselves into sleep and also the ways those tricks evade our smart smart brains.

In honor of the food-est day of the American calendar next week, we're covering ADHD & food today! Do you ever struggle with constantly craving carb-heavy foods? Turns out, yet again, it's all your brain's fault! We do our best to steer clear of eating disorder discussions but there is some talk this week of food and exercise extremes so if that's too much for you, we totally understand. In addition to our history of giving knives to tortellini, we also weaponize vegetables in this episode. Pretty soon we'll have a whole slew of characters to slap on some merch for you! Make sure to leave us a 5-star review wherever you find our podcast and follow us on IG & FB @thebarisanklehigh and on Twitter and TikTok @AnkleHighPod. Remember to eat those potatoes, because The Bar is Ankle High.

Welcome back to the ADHD gravy train! This week, Garet & Katie recorded on a morning when they were both extremely exhausted somehow but they still take you down the rabbit hole that is HYPERFIXATIONS! A rarely studied, often just anecdotally reported, ADHD symptom that is sometimes also called "hyperfocus." Don't be fooled, though! Hyperfixation and hyperfocus are actually two different things, and either way, we manage to squeak out some tips to snap out of it so you remember to eat and drink water throughout the day, and also how to maybe set yourself up to get INTO your hyper-whatever state when you need it! What is your current hyperfixation meal? Because we have them and can you tell it's lunchtime? We want to hear what you're obsessed with eating right now! Remember to leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen, and follow us on FB and IG @thebarisanklehigh, on Twitter and Tiktok @anklehighpod and join our Patreon which now has THREE membership tiers at www.patreon.com/thebarisanklehigh.

TRIGGER WARNING -- This week Garet took the lead and tells us all about the Willowbrook State School. This year marks the 50th anniversary of a landmark exposé spearheaded by Jane Kurtin but made popular and videorecorded by Geraldo Rivera -- yes, THAT Geraldo Rivera of a New York State-run "school" for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities where residents were subjected to everything from Department of Defense experiments and being denied access to running water, clothing, and regular meals. Garet tells us what happened after this exposé came out, what changed, and we take a look at the things that might still need changing. Be sure to stay tuned all the way through to hear our ADHD wins of the week, and follow us on IG & Facebook @thebarisanklehigh, and on Twitter & Tiktok @AnkleHighPod -- and leave us those 5-star reviews wherever you find us!

We're taking a break from our regularly scheduled ADHD programming to take a side quest and delve into the History of Tarot for a special spooky season treat! Katie leads the discussion this time but don't worry because Garet brings the Big Deck Energy, too. The history of this Italian card game played at bougie cocktail parties that transformed into an occult practice and turned into something involving rogue tentacles maybe? Katie also recounts her couples psychic reading that she dragged her boyfriend to when they were in Salem for their summer vacation -- was it accurate or was it shady? Depends who you ask. Make sure you follow us on IG and FB @thebarisanklehigh and on Twitter @AnkleHighPod, and please leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!

We're about halfway through October and finally tackling the topic you've all been asking for - Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. Part 1 discusses what exactly is RSD and how does it feel to us, and why does it actually cause physical pain? We also finally lift the veil and answer the true question: What is a PK? Join us the shame vortex of knives and tortellini as we get to the bottom of why and how RSD happens, what we can do about it, and what we can't do about it and maybe we find out that the Bar is Actually Absurdly High after all. Make sure you're following us on IG and FB @thebarisanklehigh, Twitter @AnkleHighPod, and leave us a 5-star review wherever you get your podcasts!

Have you ever said "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it!" and you knew that was a lie? Samesies! This week we discuss poor planning - what causes it, why does it happen, and how can our little ADHD brains cope with those situations where we're forced to plan something way far in advance. The Mad Hatter takes over and we have a real big beef with the dreaded 5 Year Plan that our college programs forced us to formulate before we were diagnosed. Building on topics discussed in our previous episodes, we only take a few detours this week but we have a slight layover in Las Vegas. Be sure to follow us on IG and Facebook @thebarisanklehigh, Twitter @AnkleHighPod, and leave us a 5 star review and subscribe on your favorite podcasting platform! And remember to write down that reminder for yourself - because The Bar is Ankle High.
