Welcome back to our continued conversation with Sarah Spellman about the intersection of neurodiversity and queerness and introduces us to a new word: NEUROQUEER. It's a noun, a verb, and an identity! Katie yet again takes us down a visual extravaganza when it comes to teaching people how to use public restrooms and Sarah teaches us how we're all just made of stardust and be confident in the fact that neurotypical things are just not for us. We also go on a brief Chik-Fil-A tirade because FUCK THOSE GUYS. Laughter truly is the best medicine even if we're only funny because of the .~:*Trauma*:~. Thank you so much, Sarah, for coming onto our podcast to discuss the intersection of these topics and fostering this discussion and being so open to our questions and sharing your own neuroqueer experience with us and our listeners.

Welcome to The Neurodivergent Nurse Podcast takeover of The Bar is Ankle High. This week our podcast idol, Jami Fregeau, host of The Neurodivergent Nurse Podcast and the brains behind @theneurodivergentnurse on Instagram takes over our feed to bring us a very special introduction to her new series on ADHD & Crime! We start off with the doozy of a serial killer - Richard Ramirez - a/k/a The Night Stalker. A serial killer active in California in the mid-1980's who blamed some of his killings on Satan. We ask the tough questions like "how did he even survive childhood?" and "where would you even get a machete?" and "what the fuck?" Do our questions get answered? Probably not. Do we discuss the possible connection between brain trauma and ADHD? Absolutely. Tune in to find out the conclusions we come to and different facts our brains focus on that are absolutely not the point of the story at all. In the meantime, remember to tether your childrens' dressers to the walls and get assessed for ADHD if you find yourself involved in the criminal justice system at any point, because the Bar is Ankle High.

We have an extra special guest appearance in this week's episode to discuss our experiences with dating and how having ADHD and realizing we had ADHD later in life has changed our perspective on dating - along with some of the lessons we've learned along the way. This week Katie & Garet are joined by Natalie - the host of To All The Men I've Tolerated Before Podcast - a podcast that looks at everyday misogyny and how to dismantle it in real time. Natalie - a fellow ADHDer - takes us through how she's experienced dating and how some things that ADHDers struggle with like - time blindness and poor working memory - can actually help save us from shitty partners who are lying in wait.
Make sure you join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/thebarisanklehigh because the next bonus episode we release will be an extended conversation between Katie & Garet about this exact topic so you'll want to make sure you have that Anklet or Limbo Champion membership locked and loaded ASAP!
Follow us on Instagram @thebarisanklehigh and share with us your own ADHD & Dating horror (or happy) stories! You can also check out our merch store at bit.ly/anklehighmerch. Finally - the best way to support us is to leave us a 5-Star review everywhere you can - especially Apple Podcasts by writing out a review for us - it sounds silly but it really is the best way to get a small podcast like ours out there!
Until next week - remember to tell the misogynists to eat a whole bag of dicks - because The Bar is Ankle High!

As promised - here's another Patreon exclusive bonus episode gracing our main feed for your listening pleasure! In this episode, originally released in March 2023, Katie & Garet discuss their very different, and also similar, experiences with farms in Ireland, specifically, and compare and contrast those with our apparently extensive experience with farms here in the US. One thing is certain - Garet is very inexperienced with foamy heads and makes a mess.
If you want to join our Patreon to hear more stories like this - head over to www.patreon.com/thebarisanklehigh and sign up as an Anklet or Limbo Champion to get bonus episodes every other week. Limbo Champions also get access to ad-free episodes!

This week we welcome Jami Fregeau - The Neurodivergent Nurse - back to our podcast to help us delve into the new promise from 23 & Me that they can now assess genetic likelihood of having ADHD. We discuss the risks and benefits of ADHD genetic testing - is it maybe more trouble than it's worth? Is it possible to use genetic testing to our own benefit? What are the pros and cons of this new screening? We also placed our bets on which one of us would live the longest and no one is surprised. Thank you so much to The Neurodivergent Nurse for taking the lead on this round of research for us so we could have a real discussion with someone who understands what they were reading. You can find Jami on IG @theneurodivergentnurse and find her podcast - The Neurodivergent Nurse - on your favorite podcast streaming platform.

CONTENT WARNING: This episode continues our discussion last week on topics related to dieting including specific calorie counts, disordered eating habits, and specific weights. If you are not in a place where you feel comfortable listening to that, we still love you and you are always able to relisten to our older episodes instead. We will see you here next week!
Welcome back to the conclusion of our introductory episodes discussing our personal experiences with diet culture, dieting, weight loss programs, extreme exercise regimens, and disordered eating habits. We delve into the new WW (Weight Watchers) purchase of a telehealth company called Sequence, whether that is dystopian or just capitalism, baby! We also discuss various hang-ups we used to have about anything from real sugar to drinking flavored water or a latte. As ladies who grew up in the 1990's and early 2000's, we're just proud we made it this far and managed to learn (the hard way, sometimes) how to love our bodies and take care of them in a healthy and safe way...even if sometimes we're still trying to learn a good balance.
If you're not yet following us on Instagram what are you waiting for? Go check us out @thebarisanklehigh. If you want your own special shout out in a future episode, join our Patreon as an Anklet or Limbo Champion at www.patreon.com/thebarisanklehigh

Because this topic isn't for everyone - MAJOR CONTENT WARNING right at the top - we will be discussing disordered eating habits, specific calorie counts, specific weights, and extreme exercising habits. If you're not in a safe place to hear about that, just know that we love you anyway and that you can safely re-listen to our older episodes instead of this episode OR next week's episode. That's right - this is going to be a two-parter.
We've been promising you this episode topic since we started the podcast. We've been promising ourselves this topic since we dared to germinate the idea for this podcast. The day is finally here where Katie & Garet delve into their own experiences with dieting, diet culture, and extreme exercising trends.

Welcome back to our ongoing series about hormones. Today we're discussing a HEAVILY requested topic - PMDD and PMS - that's pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder and pre-menstrual syndrome for the uninitiated. Garet takes over this hormone-centric research again and teaches Katie quite a bit about PMS - did you know it's not universal? It's almost universal, but not quite, and it actually has distinguishable symptoms that explain why you might be feeling (physically AND mentally) a certain way leading up to your menstrual period. Also - it gets worse when you're in your 30's and 40's because LIFE IS MISERY apparently! Garet also teaches us about PMDD, a condition that can be truly debilitating for people with periods and can be exacerbated by co-morbidities like pre-existing depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders.
